The First Sunday Funday of 2012

The first Sunday Funday of 2012 was pretty tame. After the first week of changing up our training, our legs were pretty tired and sore. Not to mention that Tom had just finished running a half marathon that morning, we all were good with taking it easy on this day.

We started off at Sharp’s for some fuel\ refueling. It’s hard to pass up a great brunch at that restaurant! Then we (causally) headed south to Irezumi to check out some jewelry. Mandy is in the process of gauging her ears and is now currently at a 4 gauge. Thanks to Adam for always being helpful!

After the brief stop, we made our way to the Gaf. Yes, again. Don’t judge us! That seems to be our go to place when we are up that way. If you have ever tried their Irish Coffee, then you would understand.

After warming our bodies at the Gaf, we rode around for a few more miles before calling it quits for the day. It was a good day and was nice to get out and enjoy the weather! We have to take advantage of this while we can! We’re not too sure how much more mother nature will spoil us!

Usual Suspects on a Sunday Funday

Here’s a video of our usual Sunday Funday. More cyclists are welcome to join us. What that means is… EVERYBODY is a cyclist in our book. So grab your bicycles and join us on a fun outing!

36 Miles for a Sunday Funday

The start of this Sunday Funday was cloudy, chilly, and windy! The high was only supposed to be near 50 degrees (seriously, wasn’t it just last week we hit 90 degrees?!) , and since that can make for some cold riding we bundled up and hit the road around 9:30AM. Our plan was to bike from our house north of the river to Northtowne, through downtown KC, past the Plaza, and into Brookside to have brunch at Sharps on 63rd. Our friend Tom met us at our house after already biking the 10 miles from his house. Tom on his Schwinn, I on my mountain bike, and Christopher taking his newly finished commuter out for the first long haul, we cruised right along enjoying the brisk Sunday morning. By the time we made it to Sharps, we were a little beat and enjoyed meeting up with some friends for a hearty breakfast and a few drinks. From there we took our time and stopped in at Family Bicycles at 75th and Brookside so Tom could peruse another bike shop and Christopher could buy me a T-shirt :) We were craving Irish coffees and realized we were close to The Gaf, so we made another pit stop to warm up our insides. From there we took the neighborhood streets back to the Plaza to run in to Diebels for more pipe tobacco, and then we began the 14 mile trek home. We were getting pretty tired by the time we made it through Northtowne, and the last few miles we were pretty silent as we made our way back home. We rounded out the 36 mile trip, and Christopher was pleased with his new commuter bike and how well it rode. He is deciding to stick with the 52t chainring, even though it’s much more difficult to ride. That’s my guy: always up for a challenge! After arriving home, Tom still had to ride the remaining 10 miles to his house, putting him at close to 60 miles for the day. It was a great start to Bike Week, and once we got home we got to work preparing Christopher for his commute to work and back this upcoming week. His legs got quite a warm-up from our longer than usual Sunday Funday! To see all of Bike Week’s activities here in the greater Kansas City area, check out www.bikeweek.bikewalkkc.org.
