The First Annual Spooks and Spokes Halloween Bicycle Ride

The first Spooks and Spokes Halloween Ride was fun, and we would say it was a success! Starting out at Grinder’s, there were 17 riders that gathered. We made our way up to The Filling Station, and unfortunately 2 riders had to drop out. One had to go to work and the other was not confident in their bike that they had just purchased. After a brief stop  for some coffee, we made our way down to the Plaza to show off the costumes, and also to make drivers aware of cyclist on the streets. We had a good time waving and shouting “Happy Halloween!” to passers-by, pedestrians and motorists; all joined in on the shouting and honking. It was a great time! We made a stop at O’Dowd’s to enjoy a quick drink and then up to McCoy’s for some lunch. Finally we made our way back to Grinder’s where we enjoyed celebratory drinks and a much-needed Chili bomb pizza.

In all, it was a fun ride and the weather was great. Next year we will plan on more of a bicycle ride and fewer stops. The stops were fun, but getting out and enjoying the bicycle is what it’s all about! Thanks to all that showed up and we hope to make it more fun next year!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

It has been over a month since we have been on any kind of bike ride. With the cold settling in and the craziness of the holiday parties and get-togethers, there was little time for us to get back outside and ride.

We finally had enough and were putting our foot down. We were going to get outside and ride. It was a brisk 32 degrees fahrenheit on Sunday early afternoon. We bundled up and headed to Westport. We were only there for a couple of hours, but at least we got some riding in. We stopped for coffee, played around in the park, and browsed at Barnes & Noble.  It was cold, but well worth it. Something about the cool crisp air just makes you feel alive. Old man winter can’t keep us down!

And here we have yet another Sunday Funday with Jeremy in tow. We did our usual ride, starting out in Westport; we hit up Jack Gage for breakfast (and mimosas!). From there we took off and stopped in at Loose Park for a short history lesson on the Battle of Westport. We rode through the Brookside/Waldo area before stopping in at Tomfoolerie’s for a drink. After tooling around the Plaza we decided to head down the Trolley Trail, down and back, and made a mandatory stop at Yogurtini. After Jeremy departed, we rode around a little more in Westport and stopped in at Westport Cafe for coffee before calling it a day.

A Nice Fall Sunday Funday

Being the weekend before my marathon, we decided to take this ride even more casually than usual. Our friend Brent met up with us to ride, and Jeremy even met up momentarily to catch a cup of coffee with us at Broadway Cafe. The weather was gorgeous and warm, and we made our way from Westport to the Plaza, down the Trolley Trail to Brookside, where we stopped in to check out the Aixois coffee bar. From there we headed to Family Bicycle to buy a new seat pouch for my brand spankin’ new road bike! We took our usual route back through Brookside, Loose Park, and back to the Plaza. Christopher is getting used to his fixie and perfecting his skid stops. Today’s ride was short and sweet, out enjoying friends and the beautiful weather!

Another Sunday Funday

Today was just a causal ride through the city. We started off in Westport, made our way to the Plaza for a coffee at Starbucks, then took the Trolly Trail through Brookside to Waldo. Stopped off at Family Bicycle and then headed back to stop off for a coffee at the Broadway Cafe. Today we had our good friend, Jeremy, join us for our afternoon.
