Killing Time on a Sunday Funday

This Sunday Funday was just like old times. Nothing to do, nowhere to be, just riding the bikes, having fun, and killing time.

We started out with brunch at Beer Kitchen. With Tom in tow, we met up with our friends Stormy and Matreena. Matreena is a fitness competitor and trainer. She always has some rather helpful tips on her blog. Click here to find out more! Stormy is an amazing tattoo artist and is currently working at Windhorse Tattooing. Recently, he has gotten himself into fitness competitions as well. They make a great team!

After having stuffed ourselves with delicious food from Beer Kitchen, we needed to get out and enjoy the fantastic weather and also ride off the full bellies. We made our way up to one of our favorite places, The Gaf. We ordered our drinks and sat outside to enjoy the air. After a brief R n’ R, we headed on back down to Westport, and as we rounded the corner we heard the base sounds from Sunday Solace at Californos. Of course we had to stop in there to say hello to all of our good friends attending the last Sunday Solace of the season.

Last, but certainly not least, we made our way over to tea drops. This seems to be a mandatory stop for us as we finish the day. What better way to finish a great day but with some bubble teas?! One word, YUMMY.

What can I say about this day? I guess I could say it was damn near perfect. I just love days like this!

Kiddie Pools and Cocktails

After a few weeks off of our bikes, we were both just itching to get out for a Sunday ride! Christopher was excited to hop on his Traveler, and I couldn’t wait to break out my Vilano. We started off by having brunch at Cascone’s in the River Market. If you’ve never been, you need to go; the food is delicious! From there we made a couple of pit stops for new running shoes for me at Gary Gribbles and to change the flat at Family Bicycle that unexpectedly came up on Christopher’s bike. Once we were set we parked in a Plaza parking garage and cruised around the Plaza for a bit checking out the sights before heading up to Westport. It was very humid outside with highs near 90, and we were sweaty by the time we parked our bikes at Californos. With their Sunday Solace starting soon, we left our bikes there and walked down to the Beer Kitchen for a couple of cocktails before making our way back to enjoy the patio at Californos. People milled about on the deck while eating, drinking, and listening to the DJs. Dogs were running around while little kids played in the kiddie pools that were set out for people to cool off. We even sat with our feet in one while we sipped on our cocktails. After leaving Californos we headed to Spin Pizza for delicious food and sangrias. Feeling like we hadn’t really had a chance to get out and really ride yet, we took off through the neighborhoods in the Brookside/Waldo area and made our way to 85th Street before coming back to the parking garage on the Plaza. It had cooled off a little, and the breeze felt great as we pedaled on, enjoying the day. We had another successful Sunday Funday!

"Cycling is based so much on form, on aesthetics, on class - the way you carry yourself on the bike, the sort of technique you have." ~David Millar
