1983 Schwinn Traveler

[4/21/2011]
This is my newest project, the 1983 Schwinn Traveler. I got this from a nice guy that runs thisoldbicycle.com. If you are looking for good bike to restore or fix, look him up. He’s very helpful!
This will be my commuter bicycle and I’m going to try and leave the bicycle as is. Visually, all I’ll change is the seat, handlebars and chainring. I’m still deciding if I want this to be a single gear freewheel, fixed gear or three speed internal hub. Either way, this bike will be made to last through the elements. I will add a front rack and some fenders but leave everything else, pretty much the same. I love colors that is already on it, so no need for powder coating. I’m looking forward to getting started!
[Update 7/18/11]
OK, so far the only thing that I have updated on the bicycle is add the Velo-Orange Hammered Fenders, added the Crank Brothers egg beater pedals, changed the rear wheel out for a temporary non-polished aluminum wheel (A shiny polished wheel will come with fundage) with a fixed 16t Surly cog and brand new 27″ Kenda Tires. Yes, another fixed gear in the fleet. It’s a bit challenging since I have left the original 52t chainring. Basically, it’s really difficult to turn the pedals, but I love it. I can really pick up speed and it’s a pretty smooth ride. I also took some Nevr-Dull to the aluminum components. It really shined it up a bunch. So far, this is my favorite bike as far as everyday riding goes. More to come so stay tuned.
[Update 7/28/11] It was just posted in Fixed Gear Gallery! See it here 1983 Schwinn Traveler

do you know the specs on the botter bracket? i blew mine out and need to replace it. thanks, wes.
I am unsure of the threading because I have never had the bottom bracket taken apart but the shell width is 68 mm. A link that might be helpful:
