1970′s AMF Cruiser Restoration
1970′s AMF Cruiser

This project bike took just over three months to put together. It’s a Mid 70′s (Actual Year Unknown) AMF. My father had this sitting at his house, and it needed a loving home. We took it under our wing and gave it the TLC that it deserves. This was a great bike for Mandy to learn the ins and outs of building a bike and a great thing for us to learn together. As with old bikes, not all parts are easy to find. The head set was a task, and then we found out that the chainring is anoffset for a larger chain.
First of all, we broke the bike down to assess what needed to be replaced and what could be saved. The saddle was replaced with a new Gyes saddle. The handlebars were replaced with a nice new polished moustache handlebar. Mandy sewed the elk hide wraps on from Velo Orange.
The old white pedals were replaced with shiny chrome and chrome toe clips. The 3-speed internal hub was bad, so a coaster brake with 26″ chrome rims and new tires were installed instead. Everything else is the same. With Mandy’s hard work, all the rest of the chrome was polished up with good ol fashioned elbow grease. We had the frame sandblasted and powder coated a creme/beige color to give it that extra class.
The bike was definitely a challenge, but with some determination and some help from a friend, the bike was a success. We think it came out great, and it rides so smooth! Mandy did a great job!

Chris and Mandy,
Great job! That bike looks fantastic! You made it better than ever.
Thanks Chris! Our hard work paid off on this bike. It definitely turned out better than we thought and of course we used the Moustache handlebars!
Is there any other way? You and your wife should plan to join us next year!
Loved that use used the moustache handle bars for the “Moustache Ride”! LOL!
